ABOUT US
Baldur’s Flora is a fan project with a focus on the beloved cast of characters from Baldur’s Gate 3 and the language of flowers. The project was inspired by a love of flowers and the community itself, and seeks to channel that love into highlighting the talent of creatives, as well as gather money for charity. The charity has yet to be selected by the mod team, but is planned to be related to the conservation of nature and all its bounty. The zine will feature both artists and writers, and is planned to be released in both physical and digital formats, with optional merch add-ons for both categories.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What is a zine?
A: A zine is a small circulation of fan made magazine dedicated to a certain fandom, character, or something else. It is an unofficial publication produced entirely by fans and enthusiasts for the pleasure of creating and for others who share the same interest.
Q: Will the zine be physical or digital?
A: We aim to provide a physical zine with optional physical and digital merch, as well as a digital only option for those who prefer such
Q: Will Baldur’s Flora be for profit, charity or freely available?
A: we intend for some of the profit to cover the cost of production, whilst the rest will be donated to a charity we’ve yet to decide upon
Q: *How much experience does the mod team possess?
A: It varies! But each member of the mod team has some degree of experience from working on at least one zine.
Q: What characters will this zine include?
A: Our main focus will be the origin companions, each of whom will be designated three different flowers, then the rest of the companions, each of whom will be assigned two flowers, and lastly fifteen NPCs, most of which will be decided upon based on results from our interest check, who will be assigned one flower each.
Q: Will this zine allow for NSFW content?
A: The zine will be SFW, with artistic nudity being the most ‘NSFW’ we’ll allow. Gore must also be kept to a minimum.
Q: Can an illustration include multiple characters?
A: Unless any featured NPCs come as a pair, we would prefer if the illustration only includes the primary character, with animal companions having a smaller feature being the exception.
Q: Do you accept 3D render art?
A: For this project we unfortunately won’t, but we’ll happily direct your attention to projects that do!
Q: Is there a certain level of knowledge about floriography you need to apply?
A: Not at all! We have ample resources about each flower’s meaning, and are already in the progress of choosing which flowers to include.
Q: What floriography will this zine be using?
A: We’ve decided to focus on the Victorian meanings for certain flora for the zine.
Q: What kind of contributors will this zine include?
A: Artists, both for illustrations and merch, as well as writers to include a short oneshot between 1.2-1.5k words for each flower entry.
Q: How do I apply?
A: We’ll be sharing links to Google forms for both mods, artists, and writers to our socials once our applications open, as well as give ample reminders before the forms close. Therefore, we suggest you follow us on either Twitter or Tumblr at @BG3flowerzine for more updates.
Q: How many contributors will you be selecting?
A: We’re looking for 25 writers and 41 page / spot artists, as well as a handful of merch artists as well.
Q: How will mods and contributors be selected?
A: Our current mod team will review the mod applications we receive and pick which candidates we find to be the better fit. Along with these mods, we will vote upon which artists and writers to include based on submitted samples and portfolios. We do, however, intend to reach out to a small handful of artists and writers whom we hope to see on the project to offer a spot, but the fast majority will be picked through the application process.
Q: Who is moderating the zine?
A: You might find some of our mod team in the wild hyping up the project, but we intend to post some proper mod introductions once we’ve filled out our team.
Q: Can moderators contribute?
A: Moderators will be allowed to contribute if they so wish, but it needs to be specified early so we do not take on more creatives than we have flowers.
Q: How will characters and flowers be assigned to each artist and writer?
A: Our application form will require people to fill out which characters they’d be comfortable drawing or writing for, which requires at least 4 different characters, with a minimum of one being an NPC.
Q: Is zine experience required?
A: Not at all! Though it is definitely a plus, especially in mod applications!
Q: Will writers and artists retain the rights to their work(s)?
A: They will! Though we do ask that they do not publicly share their submissions until the zine is out, and wait with selling any art prints until the pre-order period has ended. We will be posting wips and teasers along with our creatives to hype up the project though.
Q: What kind of merch can I expect?
A: We’re currently discussing stuff like prints, charms, stickers etc. but it also depends on what consumers wish to see and what our merch artists wish to create.
Q: What is the strange text in your contributor section?
A: It’s merely a temporary placeholder, fear not!
Q: I still have more questions, where can I find answers?
A: Feel free to direct any questions to our retrospring, or our other social medias, all of which are linked on our home page!
